At AstraZeneca, we are driven by science to redefine care in haematology. By leveraging our scientific platforms to develop and test novel investigational agents designed to directly kill cancer cells or harness the immune system to recognise and eliminate cancer. By addressing blood cancers with high unmet needs, we are advancing our pipeline to enrich first-in-class agents and to deliver best-in-class medicines.
In the Netherlands, our dedicated team of over 600 colleagues collaborates across key locations, including our head office in The Hague, our production facility in Nijmegen and our research labs in Amsterdam and Oss. In the labs, we work on the discovery and further development of oncolytics.

Developing new molecules, testing these on targets of interest and trying to understand the biology of a disease is our shared passion. In order to make new medicines for patients we are embracing of new tools and technologies in our work.
Innovation is the key driver within our work at Acerta Pharma. It’s a crucial ingredient of our identity, and embedded in our DNA. In this company we are collaborating with about 100 colleagues, with amongst them chemists, biologists and clinical operation scientists. This very inclusive environment of Acerta Pharma and AstraZeneca inspires people from diverse backgrounds to work together in close collaboration, to develop medicines with high unmet clinical need.
Developing new molecules, testing these on targets of interest and trying to understand the biology of a disease is our shared passion. In order to make new medicines for patients we must be innovative, thus we are embracing of new tools and technologies in our work. Beyond that, work processes are also simplified by innovative ideas. In my work as a Senior Bio-Scientist it is really helpful to be able to interact on a daily basis with the BioScience & Chemistry team leads. Our site head is also easily accessible to discuss opportunities that can improve the way we work. So, proposals with good justification are quite eagerly taken aboard. It makes me proud to contribute to the development of new medicine.
We take steps to improve our digital footprint, reduce the use of disposable plastics and improve waste separation. We have addressed our CO2 emissions by reducing the use of solvents with the highest carbon footprint and replacing them with greener alternatives. At Acerta Pharma we are passionate about a more sustainable working environment.
At Acerta Pharma we’re passionate about a more sustainable working environment. We've grown a lot in recent years and we're doing much more research. That means a bigger environmental footprint, especially in our labs. Led by our Green Team, we have taken steps to improve our digital footprint, reduce the use of disposable plastics and improve waste separation. Awareness about the use of pollutants has also increased. We have addressed our CO2 emissions by reducing the use of solvents with the highest carbon footprint and replacing them with greener alternatives. From next year we will work in a state of the art new building, and we will be working towards a My Green Labs certification.
It’s a great inspiration to be able to contribute to drug development for cancer patients. At Acerta Pharma I get the opportunity to experience the whole process, from discovery to clinical research. That's unique! Certainly in oncology, the success rate of projects is not high; we try out a lot of possible solutions. However, the projects that I am now working on could be handed over in a few years’ time to my colleagues who are supervising clinical research. I feel that I make a concrete contribution to a better future for patients.
We're developing new active molecules and compounds, oftentimes completely by hand. These are prototypes for new medicines that have never been designed before. Innovation is the core of our work at Acerta Pharma.
Making something that’s new and better than existing treatments: innovation is the core of our work at Acerta Pharma. As research chemists, we're developing completely new active molecules and compounds by hand. These are prototypes for new drugs that have never been designed before. Sometimes that’s quite easy, but oftentimes we have to invent the chemistry and the synthesis routes all by ourselves, because it has never been done before.
After my PhD at the Stockholm University, I started at Acerta Pharma about 2 years ago. We’re a science-driven company with an academic mentalty. We work in young, diverse and motivated teams, in which there is plenty of opportunity for personal development and growth. We work in close connection with our various international Research & Development locations. In this way, I work from the laboratory on the development of new treatment for patients with blood cancer. Medicines that ultimately make the difference for the patient in terms of quality and life. Creating a future for these patients; that is the goal we keep in mind together.
